The Glacé Media Re-Brand; Everything You Need To Know

September 20th, 2023

We’ve only gone and shaken things up and re-branded our plucky northern video production company.

Change had been bubbling away under the surface for a long time. Working on higher-end projects with bigger clients meant not only had the quality and scope of our projects developed, but the Glacé Media offering has evolved.

Beyond just the two camera-toting individuals who breathed life into Glacé back in 2017, we are now working extensively with our clients to develop the wider creative direction of their projects.

From snappy creative ideas in the pre-production process, through dynamic and multi-faceted filming options, all the way to the bold and impactful techniques employed in post-production, Glacé represents much more than just a pair of freelancers with an Adobe subscription.

When what we do for our clients evolves, it makes sense that our brand evolves too.

But what exactly has changed?

What Has Changed?

To keep it to the point, we’ve got a fresh logo incorporating our snazzy new colour palette, all of which is showcased on our refreshed website.

Now when you see the Glacé Media logo you’ll be looking at a looping lowercase “g” that leads the line, whilst a popping turquoise flick in the form of our accented “é” ties the whole stamp together.

The logo of video production company, Glacé Media.

We’ve taken a step onward from the harshness of the block capitals set against a deep black backdrop. A squirt of navy blue dashed into proceedings contributes to the cooler, calmer aura embracing our refreshed image.

The standout touch of teal has been cranked up that extra notch to a popping turquoise, visible most strikingly in our brand-defining accent sitting comfortably above the “é” of Glacé.

The accent is at the heart of our brand. Without it we aren’t Glacé, we’re a mistaken identity of something that is known amongst certain circles to be the most polished outfit in town.

This is why we want to emphasise it even more and elevate it proudly above everything else. Expect to see plenty more from this little fella.

The turquoise accent featured prominently in new logo of Glacé Media as part of their re-brand.

All of the above is now integrated within our refreshed Glacé website. The site still incorporates all of the core information expected from our online offering, we’ve just brought the soul of it online with the rest of our outward image.

Take a little browse if you like. We’re always very welcoming to visitors.

Why Have We Re-Branded?

This isn’t a snap decision. Nor does it represent a drastic new direction for Glacé Media. It has been in the offing for quite a while and is in essence the representation of the natural development that we have undertaken over the last few years.

In our early days, naturally, our scope was very limited. We got sent briefs, we shot videos. But as we as a production company have developed, so has our relationship with our clients.

For a long time we have been much more than a few cameras to hire, we’re an agency that crafts client’s projects from beginning to end.

This means developing creative concepts alongside our clients. Figuring out what exactly they want to achieve from the production and creating content that aligns with these. Yes, production from our perspective is about producing stunning content, but it is even more importantly about communicating. If our client’s videos don’t resonate with their chosen audience, then they haven’t been a success.

Even further than this, the resources that we offer our clients have expanded. New services such as remote product video production, animation and high-end narrative content are now all on the menu when it comes to choosing what experience you’re going to have when working with Glacé.

This has been the result of our internal developments, but also the growth and refinement of our all-important creative collaborations that are integral to who and what Glacé Media are.

Our way of doing things has always been built around “crewing up” to quickly provide our clients with larger scale when needed on projects but to also enable us to execute highly-specialised productions alongside creatives who contribute those all-important additional expertise.

In practice, this means that as a company at our core, we stay streamlined, keeping all our business operations efficient. However, we have the ability to very quickly scale up and/or execute highly specialised projects to the quality that comes with everything Glacé do.

This has all developed with us as the Glacé vision has developed. Now that we are absolutely delivering in a way that we believed in from the very start, the new branding firstly emphasises a step forward from our initial offering whilst also incorporating the agency-style service we offer our clients via our slick new branding.

What The Brand Represents (And Always Has Done)

“Glace Media”, “Glass Media”, “Glackey Media” and even “Glachey Media”. We’ve had our beloved name pronounced in all sorts of ways. For the record it’s pronounced “Glass A Media”, but we’re the first to admit that we didn’t choose the easiest company name to pronounce.

We’re not here to berate or sound pretentious (ok well maybe just a little bit). Call us whatever you like, the point here is what Glacé represents.

Beyond us liking that Glacé is a pretty cool sounding word and that it would allow us to endlessly correct people in a snooty way that suggests that we are talented linguists, Glacé really does mean something more than this.

If we want to hit up the dictionary for a definition, Oxford gives us “Smooth and highly polished”. We like this. It sums up what we are offering our clients. A visual delight in video form that has had care and attention put into it to reach an unbelievably well-rounded end product.

Great videos are visually stunning and captivate the audience. The word “Glacé” absolutely encapsulates our service offering.

But when we look at “Glacé” the brand, we need to skip back to the struggles surrounding the pronunciation of our name to describe who we truly are.

Video content should be visually stunning. So yes, absolutely what we produce is “smooth and highly polished”. However, we believe that stunning visuals should be a given when it comes to professional video production.

We could give you a whole list of videographers and video production companies that produce stunning videos. There are so many amazing ones out there.

But what makes Glacé Media Glacé Media is the intrigue and wonderment that comes with the attempt to pronounce our name and understand what it means.

We are a company that wants to spark intrigue. Whether that be from the audience who watch our productions or from our clients as we present them with ideas and concepts.

We want what we do to be interesting to clients and creative partners. We’ve never been about just copying the same agency model. We’re by no means trying to re-invent the wheel, but when an opportunity comes along to attempt something in a different way because we believe the traditional way doesn’t make sense to us, we’re absolutely going to jump on it.

What does that mean in practice? An agency model that is very lean at its core but believes in “crewing up” to achieve scale and to utilise specialised skills.

Our clients will always have ongoing contact with the two founders of Glacé, Marcus and Matt, but they will also benefit from access to other creative collaborators that we work with on an ongoing basis, allowing us to quickly scale up our operations for larger projects, but also to get specialised skills onto a project.

Managing Director (Marcus Johnson) and Creative Director (Matt Green) of Glacé Media sat at a table in a pub smiling at the camera.

Does this model cost us more than having in-house videographers? Of course it does. But we want to be able to offer the best service every time as well as the flexibility to pursue any creative idea or angle we develop as we work through the ideas.

The flexibility is the key. We’re here to collaborate with clients and develop the right idea and approach no matter the direction it takes us. The way we operate allows this, so the idea always comes first. There are no square pegs in round holes.

We can develop the best idea because we can facilitate the best idea.

Are clients intrigued about our name? Yes. But they are even more intrigued about what we can do with them?

Whether that be the oft-commented-on energy of the founders, developing of new services such as our remote product videos to hit demand, desire to pursue the best creative idea or just the fact that we’re a bloody enjoyable group to collaborate with, our name fits us and we continue to grow into it as we grow as a business.

Brand Spanking New Video Production Showreel

To top off our new branding it was only right to pair it with a brand new showreel

With this showreel, we have taken it to a new level. Yes, of course we’ve filled it with all the stunning footage we’ve shot and the killer edits we’ve put together, who do you think we are?

It incorporates all the finest content we have produced in recent times. Showing off the styles of videos we have been working on as well as the quality levels we have been hitting.

Importantly it incorporates our new branding. This showreel is a real statement piece to align with everything we’ve just described about what Glacé Media is and what we are becoming.

Featuring examples from projects we have worked on with Müller, Papa John’s and the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens teams, plus a few other noteworthy mentions. This latest edition of the showreel is the culmination of everything we’ve been working on with the Glacé Media re-brand.

If you want to dig into all of the details of the showreel and find out a bit more about how we produced the content that went into it, have a read of this blog.

What Next For Glacé Media?

I’m sure as you have seen from all of that, we’ve taken bold steps recently to assert exactly who we are, what we do and why we do it.

We’ve always looked to operate in a certain way at Glacé Media and approach projects in a way that we believe to be exciting and effective. This is now visually represented in our new branding and showreel.

But it doesn’t stop there. We want to continue to apply the Glacé approach to video production projects in the industries we’ve already thrived in as well as exploring new ground.

Our ongoing focus on producing content that resonates across digital marketing platforms and communicates our client’s messages clearly with the audiences they want to connect with, has power across a vast array of industries, as long as they’re willing to embrace their digital presence.

So as we continue to move forward and produce more video content, bear in mind how when we pair the model in which we operate with the willingness to explore exciting creative areas, it may just be the approach that helps your brand in sharing its message with the world.

Let us know if you think it could be the time for you to dive into your next video production project.
