Child Of Deaf Adults. That’s what CODA stands for and that’s what the film is about. Ruby, played by Emilia Jones is the only member of her family that isn’t deaf and throughout her life has took on the role as the family’s translator.
The unique angle CODA comes from is a refreshing insight into a world not often explored in cinema. Each member of the family find some form growth in their journey that parallels that of Ruby’s pursuit of a singing scholarship at Berklee College of Music.
The musical elements are not the only uplifting part of this film. The whole plot and bond between the characters draws the audience into the story, pushing them to feel the emotional development that the characters do. Were Callum and Marcus drawn in by this emotion? Let’s find out.
