Glacé Media Release Short Film, ‘Joel’

February 25th, 2021

We are unbelievably pleased to announce the release of our short film ‘Joel’. ‘Joel’ was shot in January of 2020 and is now available to stream on Amazon Prime, YouTube and Facebook Watch.

The production of this project has been driven by the passion of everybody involved. When an idea sticks that we really know we want to pursue, it is almost impossible to shy away from it. Producing ‘Joel’ has been a huge glimmer of light for us throughout 2020 and we are now so happy we can share it with you.

After Joel’s Mum passes away he is stuck with a grieving father who doesn’t understand his developing outlook on life. As Joel continues the exploration of his gender identity, he finds no love or understanding inside his own home. To find this he must look to another generation above.

Joel’s Grandma’s comforting acts may in some way empower Joel, but they do nothing to ease the tensions amongst the family. His grief-ridden father cannot for a moment empathise with his son, no matter how hard his late wife’s mother pleads. His selfish and ignorant actions inject hurt into his already fragile son.

‘Joel’ is a story of internal exploration, unforeseen loss and how these two elements struggle to find harmony in the form of family relationships.

We’d thank to give a big thank you to everybody who has contributed to this project. This has been a real collaborative effort and it has been the individual contributions of talented people that have made this film what it is.

We hope you all enjoy it and that the story of Joel will bring something to your life.
